We have started our English topic on explanation texts. We will all write our own explanation text on how a volcano works but first of all we've been getting to grips with what exactly an explanation is.
We worked out that the purpose is often to explain how or why something happens. They are easy to spot as they often have titles, sub-headings and paragraphs with factual information. We have also started our Art project for the term by mapping out our desert island and its geographical features. We took inspiration from paintings and sketches of waterfalls, mountains and beaches. We will create our own painting of a part of our island using thick and thin brushes and a watercolour background. Keep checking the blog for pictures of our work! The children have loved our swimming lessons on Friday afternoons and I am really impressed with how enthusiastic they all are about learning new strokes and techniques. Well done Magpies!

Welcome to our new theme for the term: Land Ahoy! Islands, ocean travels, adventure stories and sea creatures, we're very excited about what this theme has in store! Have a look below at how our classroom has been transformed! Which bits of our theme are you excited about Magpies? What would you like to learn about? Write a comment! We launched our theme this week with a Shipwreck Day! What would you do if you were shipwrecked on a desert island?!
The children were put in groups and designed an island map with their new crew mates! The children will do lots of work with this group and will create a 3D model of their island (complete with waterfalls or volcanoes) using junk materials! |
