Thank you to everyone who has been able to join in with 'Learning Together'. The children are bringing home a handout which shows what we did in our Maths session today.
Previous handouts are in the 'Learning Together' section of this website so do have a look! Here are a few photos of today's lesson. We were learning to use column addition to add and doing some problem solving to try and find the biggest total. Well done Deniz, Chelsea and Daniel who were the first to find it.

What a fantastic trip to the Wildnerness Centre we had! It was wonderful to see the children explore the forest and practise survival skills outdoors. Thank you so much to everyone who helped us to fundraise. It was well worth the effort. We started with map reading and an orienteering competition. The winning team were able to carefully pinpoint different points on the map in the area surrounding our base. Then we walked to a campfire sight and heard a story about the fat bottomed dragon who had destroyed the woodland fairies' houses! We had to make them new dens from materials found on the forest floor....and we had to try and make them waterproof! We tested the dens with water and were given marks out of ten. After lunch, we did a scavenger hunt and were able to look carefully in the woods for signs of animals, different leaves and stones, straight sticks and signs of colour. Then came the part of the day that most children describe as their favourite part: the campfire building and marshmallow roasting! The children were given the opportunity to practise making sparks with flint (and supervision!) before roasting a marshmallow over the campfire. The trip gave the children a taste of what life would be like for someone who had been shipwrecked, a chance to practise some survival skills and a memorable experience. Well done Magpies for giving everything a go (some children even tasted wild garlic!), behaving so respectfully and working well in teams!
In English, we're getting ready to write adventure stories. We've looked closely at a few different stories to find the beginning, middle and end. We worked out that the middle of a story can be like a roller-coaster! There are positive and then negative things that happen to the main character and they go through a range of emotions in an entertaining story! We read a summary of Kenzuke's Kingdom and plotted the events on a roller-coaster! Here's a picture of our English display board. We'll use this information when we write our own stories! We've also had a fab start to our work on fractions. We're confident counting forward and backwards in tenths and have even started to find different tenths of an amount. Keep up the good work Magpies!
We raised a fantastic £160 with our cake sale! Thank you so much to everyone who donated cakes or bought them. We appreciate your support and we're all excited about our class trip to the Wilderness Centre. |
